About This Research

To understand the agricultural water users' preference for alternative water conservation programs in the Middle Rio Grande Conservation District (MRGCD)​

  • Objectives

    • Understand general preference for alternative water conservation programs

    • Explore the heterogeneity of the preferences among different types of agricultural water users

    • Identify key factors the influence the agricultural water users' preferences​

  • A multi-prong approach

    • A series of focus groups in agricultural communities

    • One-on-one interviews with a small groups of agricultural water users

    • A survey of representative agricultural water users across MRCGD​

Our project is led by a team of researchers at the University of New Mexico, with funding support from the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District, the NM Office of the State Engineer/Interstate Stream Commission, the Thornburg Foundation, the NM Higher Education Department's Research and Public Service Projects, and the UNM Center for Regional Studies.
